The Khanfidence Builder Award

NCAN is pleased to call for nominations for The Khanfidence Builder Award, generously supported by The College Board.

The Khanfidence Builder Award recognizes a college access/success organization for incorporating Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy into their program to build students’ readiness for the SAT and college. The College Board believes that by placing high quality, free resources directly into the hands of those who work with students we can help all students realize their potential. Research shows that students who spend 20 hours preparing on Official SAT Practice see an average gain of 115 points between the PSAT/NMSQT® and the SAT, which is nearly double the gain for students who don't use Official SAT Practice.

This award will recognize an organization that effectively engaged students in productive practice using Official SAT Practice tools and tracked their progress via a potentially scalable program.  All nominees must be a member of NCAN in good standing for the 2017-2018 membership year.  A $5,000 award will be paid to the recipient organization for general operating support, scholarships, and/or technology needs.

Nomination Packets should include:

  • Description of the nominated program
  • Qualitative data the shows how the organization is using Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy combined with human interaction to increase/improve services supporting student achievement
  • A letter of support from someone other than the nominator and/or nominee.  This letter should be no longer than one typed page.

Awards will be determined based upon demonstrated merit through letters of support, program descriptions, and qualitative data provided. Nominees must be NCAN members in good standing. Programs may self-nominate.  Nominations will be considered by The College Board and NCAN.

Although there can be only be one official winner the College Board is deeply interested in working with and promoting the work of other applicants/nominees.

In order to be considered, complete nomination packets must be received by Saturday, August 5, 2017. Nominations will only be accepted via email as a single scanned pdf attachment to Sara Melnick, Deputy Director, at melnicks@collegeaccess.org. Late applications will not be accepted.

This award will be presented at NCAN’s National Conference September 11-13, 2017 in San Diego, California. While nominees are not required to attend, NCAN asks that they make every effort to be present at the National Conference.
