Houston Preparing to Dream
In November 2007, the National College Access Network, Houston A+ Challenge and teams from five Houston-area school districts (Aldine, Cypress-Fairbanks, Goose Creek, Houston and Spring Branch) launched the four-year Preparing to Dream initiative – a data-driven effort to help school districts transform policies and priorities toward a stronger college-going culture, especially for low-income and first generation students.

Fundraising for Growth
NCAN has received a grant of $162,555 from the TG Public Benefit Grant Program to help build the fundraising capacity of five regular NCAN members during FY 2011-12. With grant funds, NCAN will engage a development consulting firm to assist NCAN and five of its members in advancing their fundraising activities. Additionally, the project will generate case studies and sample documents, webinars, and annual conference sessions on advanced fundraising topics that NCAN will share with all members.

Student Success Best Practices
The National College Access Network (NCAN) is now accepting letters of interest for Supporting Best Practices in Student Success, a project funded by a TG Public Benefit Grant. Four NCAN members will be selected to submit full proposals to receive $25,000 planning and implementation grants to create, enhance or expand their persistence, retention and success programs. Two organizations will be selected to develop student success programs and two organizations will be selected to expand or enhance existing student success programs.

College Access Inventories
NCAN works with states, regions and communities on a contract basis to assess the state of college access and success through a study of college-going demographics, an Inventory of current access providers and opinions of key stakeholders. Reports can be used for network development, program targeting, partnership building, fundraising, advocacy and to mobilize stakeholders.
