April 2010 Access Update - Annual Conference

NCAN’s 15th Anniversary Conference

The National College Access Network will hold its 15th Anniversary Conference at the Hilton Washington, in Washington, D.C., October 11-13. The agenda will include Welcome Speaker Jim Applegate, a Congressional Breakfast, 32 workshop sessions, and more. Registration will launch on May 3.

NCAN is pleased to announce that Dr. James Applegate will be the Welcome Speaker. Dr. Applegate is the Senior Vice President for Program Development at the Lumina Foundation for Education, leading the development of funding programs to dramatically increase college attendance and completion in the U.S., with a focus on underserved students.
Dr. Applegate also served as Senior Fellow and Vice President for Academic Affairs at the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education and was a Professor of Communication at the University of Kentucky. Earning his B.A from Georgetown College (KY) and an M.A. and Ph.D. from University of Illinois, Dr. Applegate’s dissertation received the award given to the most outstanding dissertations completed in his field.
The NCAN conference will offer 32 workshop sessions in eight focus areas: College Access, Student Success, Collaboration, Financial Aid, Development, Nonprofit Management, Policy/Advocacy, and Innovation. NCAN received over 140 submissions for these workshops! In addition to these workshops and other conference activities, NCAN will host a Congressional Breakfast on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, October 13.
Finally, NCAN is pleased to announce that registration for the Annual Conference will open on Monday, May 3. Early registration will cost $550 for members and $625 for non-members.
