NCAN is pleased to welcome Mrs. Jayna Cobbs as our national FAFSA completion strategy manager,  part of NCAN’s commitment to support College Goal Sunday and plan for its evolution as a national FAFSA completion campaign. Mrs. Cobbs is on part-time loan to NCAN from our member Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA), one of the nation’s largest and most diverse community colleges. She will administer the final year of College Goal Sunday state regrants and curate an enhanced set of tools and training materials for communities and organizations to use in FAFSA completion initiatives.

Since 2007, Mrs. Cobbs has served as a NOVA transition counselor, offering comprehensive, intrusive counseling services to a large caseload of students to ensure the successful transition of high school seniors to NOVA and then on to a four-year university. Mrs. Cobbs also teaches Student Development and Success courses in both hybrid (online learning) and in-person format. She has also worked as lead transition counselor, trained new staff members, and helped develop a training manual as well as a crisis management plan.

Mrs. Cobbs earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Hampton University, a master’s degree in counseling and human development from George Mason University, and a post master’s in clinical community counseling from Johns Hopkins University. Her work experience has provided her extensive training in financial aid completion and outreach, working with special populations dating back to 2002. She is passionate and knowledgeable about college access and success and plans to continue to enhance students’ ability to complete higher education.
