E-Learning Is For You

NCAN wants to remind our members, friends and followers that we have E-Learning Training Units to support the professional development of your direct service providers on staff. The online training options for your staff are available 24/7– free for NCAN members and affordable rates for non-members. Please check out the NCAN website for a list of available units. To date, over 700 individuals have taken more than 1,500 units in this training catalogue.

Hot topics for this time of year may include the FAFSA 101 and FAFSA 201 units. These have recently been updated to include changes for the 2016-2017 FAFSA filing season. FAFSA 101 will help your staff learn how to complete a FAFSA, while FAFSA 201 focuses on the steps facing a student after completing the FAFSA like the Student Aid Report, Corrections, Verification and special nuances associated with the process. NCAN also recently added a unit for working with undocumented students and has a unit coming in late February on serving “Opportunity Youth” in the college access and success arena.

Your participating staff members will take a pre and posttest for each unit along with the tutorial to provide them with current information on the topic area. A passing score is required on the posttest to be considered successfully completing the unit. Trainees will have access to a certificate of completion that can be share with supervisors to confirm that the training has been completed.

This service, free for NCAN members, is intended to help keep new access advisors current in the field. NCAN will continue to evaluate and add valuable content to the training menu. We turn to NCAN membership for program experts to build the content for the units. If your program has expertise in a unit yet to be developed, please contact MorraLee Keller at kellerm@collegeaccess.org to discuss the options available.
