Beating the Odds 2016 Participants

June 21, 2016

Once again, First Lady Michelle Obama will host a "Beating the Odds" summit at the White House for recent high school graduates who are off to college this fall. The 140 participating students will engage in resource-rich panels and discussions related to better preparation for their academic journeys ahead. Some potential topics include how to get academic support in college, how to form strong networks at school, and how to attain a sense of “career fluency” to figure out opportunities for the future. Students will get to hear directly from the First Lady about her experience and advice she has for the students to be successful in college and life.

The White House invited NCAN to send two students to this once-in-a-lifetime event. More than 40 NCAN member organizations nominated students to attend. They are all so deserving that NCAN selected (thanks, Paula and Kendall!) our two representatives randomly. We're thrilled to have students from CollegeCommunityCareer in Houston, Texas represent us at the White House!

Joining them there will be students from almost 30 NCAN member organizations, which all received invitations directly from the White House. NCAN looks forward to seeing you in our hometown of Washington, D.C. this July!
