Zenia Henderson joined the NCAN staff June 1 as Director of Member and Partner Engagement.

Zenia will be responsible for developing a membership strategy aiming to gain and retain NCAN members through professional development, services, and networking. She will work closely with K-12 schools and higher education institutions to increase effective college access and success services.

“I cannot wait to continue my work in increasing college access at NCAN,” Zenia said. “Working at several organizations that are NCAN members has really given me insight into the dedication this organization and its staff has. I’m excited to be a part of such a committed and passionate team!”

After receiving her B.A. in English and Ethnic Studies the University of Colorado at Boulder and Master’s degree in Organizational Management from Trinity Washington University, Zenia has spent the majority of her professional career working to increase college access for low-income students.

She began her work as an undergraduate student interning at a local high school where NCAN member College Summit, now PeerForward, had implemented services. She went on to join the former College Summit in recruiting and retaining groups of volunteers for seven regions across the country and becoming a certified youth facilitator. In 2008, Zenia relocated to our nation’s capital and continued her work for College Summit at a national level and then joined Communities in Schools, where she worked to assess student needs and implement solutions to encourage students to engage and succeed in school. She later joined the Latin American Youth Center working closely within their Education and Health & Wellness Departments.

Zenia’s next step in 2012 placed her with another NCAN member, CollegeTracks in Montgomery County, MD, not far from NCAN headquarters in Washington, D.C. Here she assumed the position of Senior Director of Programs, providing strategic and data-driven programmatic oversight of the college access and success programs to ensure students on track to graduate have a postsecondary plan and pathway to achieving in higher education.
