Webinar: Comprehensive Supports for College-Bound Students

April 24, 2018
3:00 PM to 4:00 PM

April 24, 2018

Time: 2:00–3:00 p.m. Central Time

Location: Virtual

Description: This webinar will highlight the effects of financial aid and college readiness supports on student success and focus on research findings on supports that exclusively provide financial aid compared to supports that combine financial aid with academic resources. Lyzz Davis, Ph.D., senior researcher with REL Midwest, discuss a REL Midwest Just-in-Time study conducted with the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, the Indiana Department of Education, and Indiana’s Management Performance Hub that explores the correlation between different types of financial aid—some paired with college readiness supports—and early college success. The project sought to answer research questions addressing issues such as how the percentage of Indiana students showing early college success varies in relation to whether students received a Pell Grant or a 21st Century Scholarship. Presenters from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education will discuss the 21st Century Scholars Program in more detail, and presenters from the Oklahoma’s Promise Program will share information about their program to show similar efforts in a different state. Both programs provide financial aid contingent upon student academic progress and postsecondary planning in high school.

Partnership or Research Alliance: Indiana's Management Performance Hub (MPH; formerly the Indiana Network of Knowledge or INK)

Audience: The primary audience for this webinar will include college and career counselors, state-level administrators, district-level administrators, higher education staff, and researchers.
