Policy Strategies for Increasing FAFSA Completion in Low-Income Areas

To mark the beginning of the 2019-20 FAFSA cycle, NCAN published its annual report examining the relationship between school district poverty and FAFSA completion rates. In many states, higher child poverty levels are associated with lower FAFSA completion.

In this webinar, the report's author, former NCAN Graduate Fellow Danielle Lowry, discusses her research findings and highlights the nine states that bucked this trend for the 2018 high school senior class. Webinar viewers will also hear from the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance, an NCAN member, about the new rule implemented by Louisiana that led the state to a 25.9 percent increase in FAFSA completions from last year.
