#FormYourFuture FAFSA Completion Institute

Join NCAN for the #FormYourFuture FAFSA Completion Institute in July!

Did you know that only 61% of high school graduates in 2018 completed the FAFSA form by June 30, 2018? According to a NerdWallet analysis, those students who did not complete the FAFSA left $2.6 billion in Pell Grant funding “on the table” for the 2018-29 academic year; that’s an average of $4,000 per student. And students who need financial aid the most are least likely to apply. Fortunately, communities around the country such as Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Columbus, OH, have demonstrated it is possible to raise rates by 10 percent or more in just one year with the right planning, strategies, and partnerships.

Join NCAN and presenters from these and other successful cities to learn how to significantly boost FAFSA completion among students in your community and plan for the 2019-20 FAFSA completion season.

The institute will cover the following topics:

  • Creating and strengthening cross-sector partnerships that include K-12, community-based organizations, higher education, business, families, etc.
  • Accessing and using student-level data, including creating dashboards and using data to ensure equitable FAFSA completion outcomes.
  • Using the #FormYourFuture FAFSA Tracker to compare your city’s performance to others.
  • Strategic outreach to students and families, including use of social and traditional media, communications campaigns, and strategies for hosting effective FAFSA completion events.
  • How to train individuals who are actually assisting students with completing the FAFSA as well as others in the community so they understand the role of FAFSA completion in ensuring that all students can achieve their postsecondary goals.
