Fundraising for Growth

Member-Only Opportunity to Receive Development Consulting

NCAN has received a grant of $162,555 from the TG Public Benefit Grant Program to help build the fundraising capacity of five regular NCAN members during FY 2011-12. With grant funds, NCAN will engage a development consulting firm to assist NCAN and five of its members in advancing their fundraising activities. Additionally, the project will generate case studies and sample documents, webinars, and annual conference sessions on advanced fundraising topics that NCAN will share with all members.

NCAN is pleased to announce the selection of five members to participate in the 2011-12 Fundraising for Growth Project, funded by a grant from the TG Public Benefit Program :
  • Bright Prospect (Pomona, CA)
  • College Bound (St. Louis, MO)
  • College Forward (Austin, TX)
  • College Horizons (Pena Blanca, NM)
  • NativityMiguel Network (Washington, DC)

The firm Development Resources, Inc. (DRI), of Arlington, VA, will work with NCAN and these five organizations to help build their fundraising capacity and meet their growth goals to serve more students. DRI will also provide a series of fundraising webinars open to all NCAN members in early 2012, two sessions at the NCAN Annual Conference in September 2012 in Las Vegas, and fundraising toolkit materials on the NCAN web site.

NCAN’s selection committee chose the organizations from 15 applicants using the following criteria

  • Regular NCAN membership for FY2011-12
  • Annual expenditures of between $400,000 and $2 million
  • At least five years of successful program operation, including current provision of both effective college access and success services to low- and moderate-income students traditionally underrepresented in higher education
  • Significant planning or work under way toward a sizeable expansion of service to additional students (e.g., an increase of 15 to 20 percent)
  • Need for this type of consulting and its relation to existing fundraising efforts

Thanks to all who applied and to the selection committee members.
