Who can be a Regular Member?Regular members are non-profit organizations or public entities directly serving students or are a network of such programs. Regular members must fulfill the following requirements:
1) have non-profit status or public entity status (e.g. public school)
2) directly serve students/families or be a network of programs or national headquarters of a program that directly serves students/families.
Examples include: community based programs and centers, school districts, public and private non-profit universities, statewide and regional CANs, national programs with local, duplicated programs
Colleges and Universities are welcome to join as their entire institution or have individual programs join as members.
Statewide and regional college access networks are considered regular members, but membership does not extend to the local members of their organizations. Discounts are available for these local members to join NCAN (please see below).
Membership BenefitsPlease see the
Member Services page. All regular members receive all benefits and are also eligible to vote in NCAN proceedings and for NCAN Board members.
Organizations or schools joining as a whole receive membership benefits
for all staff members of the organization or school. Programs of larger
organizations or schools receive membership benefits for the staff
members who work directly for the program listed on the application and
whose compensation is included on the operating budget listed on
application.
Regular Member DuesRegular membership dues are tiered based on the revenue (as reported on the 990 form) or operating budget (for programs of larger organizations or public entities) of the applicant organization. Membership dues are pro-rated for the first year on a monthly basis and are due on July 1 annually for all additional years of membership.
- $250 for revenue/budgets under $500,000
- $580 for revenue/budgets $500,000 - $999,999
- $990 for revenue/budgets $1,000,000 - $9,999,999
- $1200 for revenue/budgets $10,000,000 and over
Statewide and Regional College Access Network (CAN) DiscountMembers of statewide/regional CANs and chapters of national organizations are eligible for a 25% discount from NCAN dues. The statewide/regional CAN or national organization must be a Regular Member of NCAN for the discount to apply. New member applicants must also qualify as Regular Members for the discount to apply. To receive the discount, please obtain the discount code from your statewide/regional CAN or national organization.

Application Time LineMember applications are accepted year round. All applications must be reviewed and approved by the NCAN Board of Directors according to NCAN by-laws. When applications are received, the primary contact will receive a confirmation email that includes a time line. All applications will be processed and reviewed within 6 weeks of submission. All memberships are scheduled to start on the first of the month, and year one membership dues are pro-rated based on the membership start date.
