About Our Memberships
NCAN offers several categories of membership. Review the list and criteria listed below and choose the one that is most suitable for your organization. All organizations applying for organizational membership must be approved by a majority of the NCAN board of directors.
Regular Membership
A regular member must be a non-profit organization in one of the following categories:
College Access ProgramA college access program is a community-based, primarily privately-funded organizaton engaged in programs or activities that offer assistance and incentives to encourage students to attend an institution of higher learning. The program is affiliated or closely associated with the local school system.
College Access CenterA college access center typically has a staff that provides information on college admissions, careers, scholarships, and other forms of financial aid. Most centers work with both adults and high school students who are seeking information about higher education.
Statewide or Provincial College Access NetworkA statewide or provincial network is an organiation that stimulates the creation of new college access programs in a given state or province and provides resources for existing access programs to improve and expand their service delivery.
Regular members may also be:
- School Districts
- College- or University-based outreach programs
- TRIO or GEAR UP Programs
- College admission or financial aid offices
Regular members participate in the governance of NCAN, and receive the following membership benefits:

Apply Now!Affiliate Membership- Government agencies that administer, coordinate, or develop programs for, or in
- support of, higher education
- Associations with an interest in postsecondary education, including those focused on college financial aid, college admissions, financial aid, student services, etc.
- Professional or civic organizations
- Two- or four-year colleges and universities
- University systems
Affiliate members shall receive the services listed below, but will not participate in the governance functions of NCAN.

- Quarterly Newsletters

Apply Now!Supporting OrganizationsSupporting organizations include foundations, student loan providers and guarantors, and organizations and businesses that have a particular interest in issues related to college access, but do not fall into the regular or associate categories. Any of these organizations that operate a college access program or center should join as supporting members:
- Foundations
- Student loan providers/guarantors
- Corporations
Supporting organizations shall receive the services listed below but will not participate in the governance functions of NCAN.

- Technical assistance and professional consultation from a knowledgeable, experienced staff
